France

The Limousin area of France is the hidden gem that frequently gets overlooked when people consider a destination for a holiday but with its quiet rolling hills, fantastic scenery, great food and wine and most importantly it’s huge amount of lanes and tracks waiting to be explored it makes an ideal destination for us here at All Terrain Odyssey!

We have a small private campsite in a remote hamlet deep in the hills that really feels like your getting away from it all but is only 10-15 minutes drive from the nearest small town with all the amenities you could need. We are set right in the centre of 100’s of miles of stoney steep lanes, muddy forestry trails and woodland tracks, you can be offroad within minutes of leaving your campsite and very rarely see a road for hours thereafter! The trails here suit all types of vehicle from standard family 4x4’s right through to the best prepared overlander.

Each day we will lead you through some of the finest scenery France has to offer, passing 12th century ruins, hilltop viewpoints and memorials to the occupation of this area during WW2, this trip has something for everyone. One of the best lanes of the trip leads you up a steep rocky incline switching back and forth up to a wolf reserve at the top where we can see some of these magnificent animals up close!

This trip will suit those of you that enjoy the green laning in the UK but are looking for something a bit more adventurous. The advantage of having the central campsite to return to each night is all your camping set up can stay in place for the duration of the trip and with the local supermarket only a short drive away there’s no need for carrying lots of supplies. There is also plenty of room on site for anyone who may wish to bring their classic 4x4 here by trailer, the lanes would really suit a series landrover with the roof down!

Getting here is also no trouble, we are roughly 6-7 hours drive from any of the northern ports. Dover-Calais is the obvious option but there are also good ferries from Portsmouth and Newhaven arriving into Caen or Dieppe to suit your travel times.

In short this trip has great weather, great scenery, challenging trails, some history and a whole lot of adventure, it just needs some people to come and take advantage of it!
